Please join the ULI Young Leaders as we welcome Angela Blanchard, President and CEO of Neighborhood Centers, Inc. Founded more than 100 years ago, NCI is a non-profit organization that aims to serve troubled and impoverished communities throughout the Houston area. Through their network of 58 neighborhood centers, they serve more than 200,000 individuals and families each year through community based initiatives and educational programs.
Angela Blanchard has led NCI since 1997, with the vision of using its programs and services to help people empower themselves. Leading NCI's 980 employees and 2,500+ volunteers, she has focused on an asset-based approach that emphasizes opportunities rather than needs, while instituting organizational efficiency that keeps administrative costs at less than 5%. Under Angela’s tenure, the annual budget of Neighborhood Centers has grown from $40 million to more than $180 million, meaning NCI has become more successful in helping people realize their aspirations for themselves, their children, and their neighborhoods.
Angela will share more about the mission and vision of NCI, her experiences there, and the impact the organization makes on our local communities. As we all know, it is the strength of these underlying families and neighborhoods that form the backbone of any great city, and provides the vibrant energy that spurs growth and renewal. In this light, she will also share her thoughts on how dynamic communities can, and must, remain intact in the face of new development.
The event will be held at the Ripley House, one of NCI's largest neighborhood centers that has been serving the East End of Houston since 1940.
