A
confluence of changes will soon take place on
the northern edge of downtown, including the
rebuilding of I-45, the development of an Intermodal
Transit Center, and the possible relocation
of the Central Post Office, to name a few. How
can we as a community be proactive, and ensure
that we receive the greatest benefit from this
massive redevelopment and investment? Mark Cover
and Roger Soto will discuss a proposal they
have named “Houston Vision,” which
they have developed as a starting point for
such a community-wide conversation.
In
this vision, the rerouting and depressing of
the I-45 and I-10 freeways on the CBD’s
west and north could enable residents long separated
by freeway walls to once again come together
and have a community with their neighbors, while
also allowing for the creation of a park that
would serve both aesthetic and important flood-control
aims. Additional benefits would include providing
greater prominence to both the Buffalo Bayou
and the Theater District, now situated on the
edge of downtown. Please join us for their presentation,
and to share your thoughts and insights on this
proposal.
