Dear Fellow ULI Member:
ULI Houston, a district council of the Urban Land Institute, experienced tremendous growth and success during the last year:
- Program attendance in the top 5 (of 51 District Councils)
- Signature events:
Urban Marketplace 2007: UrbanGreen
Rice/ULI Houston Real Estate Trends Conference, with Gerald Hines
Development of Distinction Awards- honoring best practices in development and land use
- Growing membership: 853 in Houston region, with a goal of 1,000 by the end of the next fiscal year
- UrbanPlan: high school real estate development program, a national ULI program now in Houston
- National ULI Advisory Services Panel: Our Emerging Houston Region (with Center for Houston’s Future), which will issue its report this Spring
- Employed Lisa Been, as Associate to work with Executive Director Jason Stuart
As a result of such growth in programming, membership, and initiatives, and through partnerships with other groups, ULI Houston has become the go-to organization for industry, government, and non-profits seeking to provide leadership in the responsible use of land.
Our greatest resource, though, is our members. Both opportunities and challenges confront our region, and in order for ULI Houston to be at the forefront of addressing these issues, we need the input and active involvement of all our members. ULI members represent—and are the leaders of—every sector of the industry, as well as the public and non-profit sectors; as a result, ULI District Council committees are well-balanced and well-equipped to seek out innovative solutions.
Please review our committees, indicate your preference for service, complete the form, and fax to (713) 349-8812, or e-mail to jstuart@uli.org, by Friday, March 28, 2008. The ULI Houston Executive Committee will consider all member requests and determine committee makeup in early April, with committee meetings beginning shortly thereafter. Each committee appointment is for a 15-month term, April 1, 2008-June 30, 2009 (this year only, in order to align ULI Houston with the ULI National fiscal year calendar) and is renewable for up to two additional years. Since committee sizes are limited, and a diverse mix of professional backgrounds is appropriate, not all first-choices can be accommodated.
Please also remember that the Spring Council Forum, ULI’s second largest conference of the year, with over 3,000 expected attendees from around the world, will be held in Dallas this year on May 7-9, 2008. All Texas ULI Members can attend, and we hope for a strong contingent from Houston.
We appreciate your ULI involvement and look forward to working with you on an ULI committee. Please call Jason Stuart or Lisa Been any time at (713) 349-8821 with any questions.
Sincerely,
| Reid C. Wilson |
