Overview:
Robert
Litke served as Director of the City of Houston Planning
and Development Department for 10 years-and worked for
the Department for a total of 14 years-prior to his retirement
in late August. Litke initiated the Super Neighborhood
Program to empower neighborhoods, and undertook the first
major rewrite of Houston's land development ordinance,
known as Chapter 42, to create new rules for urban development.
Litke was instrumental in establishing ordinances to offer
protection to neighborhoods and improve quality of life
such as the historic preservation ordinance, hotel/motel
ordinance, cellular tower ordinance and tree and shrub
ordinance.
Since returning to New Jersey, Litke has had a chance
to reflect upon his tenure, and upon the many events
that took place-including the defeat of a proposed zoning
ordinance-during his time with the City. Please join
us as he shares his thoughts about how Houston has changed,
how it hasn't changed, and how it will continue to evolve.
