Overview :
Please join us as Bob Schultz, developer of 3700 Main Street and other mixed-use properties throughout the Houston area, and Partner in the successful Continental Club in Midtown, and Robert Axelson, developer and investor of first-class properties, as they present “Transit-Oriented Development”. We will discuss how this fast-growing trend can have a positive impact right here in Houston.
Transit Oriented Development (“TOD”) is increasingly popular as a means to address the growing needs of metropolitan areas looking for alternatives to automobile transportation. TOD strives to create vibrant urban environments through compact, walk-able communities planned around efficient mass-transit systems. Recent successes can be found in Dallas and Denver, where new and expanded light-rail lines have spurred developments with easy access to the rail system. Bob Schultz is familiar with implementing the TOD concept right here in Houston, leading his company’s successful development of the Continental Club and surrounding property on the Main Street light-rail line. Just this month, RHS Interests, Inc. closed on a neighboring property to the club, which will allow for the expansion of his urban-centric development. Discussion will lead us through the benefits and challenges of TOD, why it is important, and how Houston, a city historically dependent upon its roadway system, can utilize TODs to better integrate mass-transit into its urban plan.
