Since
the mid 1990's, Pearland has transformed from a sleepy
bedroom community to one of Houston's fastest-growing
and most popular suburbs. Our speakers will discuss
the various factors that have encouraged the influx
of new residents to the Pearland area, how both the
commercial real estate community and the public sector
have responded to this rapid change, and what steps
they are taking to prepare for continued growth in
both Pearland and the surrounding region.
Lata
Krishnarao, the City’s Planning Director, and
Fred Welch, Executive Director of the Pearland Economic
Development Corporation, will discuss the growth of
the community from the standpoint of new residents,
new roof tops, and new jobs created. They will also
describe what steps are being taken to promote continued
economic development, preserve and enhance Pearland’s
livability, and establish Pearland’s identity
within, and linkages to, the Greater Houston region.
Herb Weitzman of The Weitzman Group will speak about
the history of his company and the way he envisions
potential developments in growing areas such as Pearland,
while Steve Chandler of Cencor Realty Services will
discuss the commercial development opportunities afforded
to the company by Pearland’s growth, most notably
their well-known 500,000 sf Crossing at 518 retail
project.
We
will begin our meeting with appetizers, drinks and
socializing at the Islamorada Restaurant at BassPro
Shops, selected for its convenient location at the
corner of Beltway 8 and Highway 288, just 12 miles
south of Downtown Houston. We will then move to a
private meeting room within BassPro for the presentations
and Q&A.
