Overview: The
Bring New Orleans Back Commission has asked the Urban
Land Institute (ULI) and the American Planning Association
(APA) to organize town hall meetings aimed at reaching
displaced New Orleans residents, thus ensuring they have
significant input into the plans for the revival of New
Orleans. Houston is among six cities that will be hosting
town hall meetings, along with Atlanta, Baton Rouge, Dallas,
Fort Worth and Memphis. These communities were selected
because they represent the relocation areas where the
largest portions of New Orleans residents now reside.
One or more members of the Bring New Orleans Back Commission
will attend each meeting.
We are looking for volunteers to greet and usher meeting
participants and provide assistance with event logistics.
We also hope that the volunteers will have an opportunity
to visit with our New Orleans guests and answer questions
they may have about city planning and redevelopment issues.
This is a wonderful opportunity for those in the development
and planning professions to reach out to people in a time
of need and also showcase the "can-do" spirit
of ULI, APA, and Houstonians in general.
Volunteers will be needed from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
on Saturday, December 10th. If you are interested in participating,
please RSVP to Jason Stuart, ULI Houston District Council
Coordinator at ULI-Houston@hotmail.com.
He will follow up with additional information on parking
and event logistics. If you have any questions, please
feel free to call Jason at 713.349.8821 or Jeff Taebel
at 713.993-4560. Thank you for your support of this important
effort. We look forward to seeing on December 10th!
